Family night out

My kids were young I tried to teach
I used to give a daily speech.
To be aware and help prevent
That day we talked of accidents.

Both of them paid close attention
To everything I would mention.
And at the end a show of hands
To make sure they did understand.

Later on we went out to eat
They always thought this really neat.
A family place not too upbeat
An empty booth we took a seat.

The waitress there was very nice
Had good food and decent price.
First to arrive were our milk shakes
That proved to be a big mistake.

Our drinks now right in front of us
Our youngest one began to fuss.
We’re still relaxed not in a rush
Then it happened Mom’s face went flush.

While he is acting like a clown
I spoke to him to settle down.
At first his face showed a small frown
I spilled every drink turning around!

A great big smile and big bright eyes
They laughed so hard I thought they’d cry.
One huge mess I could have died.
Soon enough help had arrived.

The busboy dropped his stack of plates
And everyone of them did break.
His look at me was quite irate.
I smiled and said I’ll compensate.

What happens next a chain event
I tried to help and off I went.
I sat there on the floor below
Covered with milkshakes from head to toe.

All the people now in a roar
Completely soaked and butt was sore.
To Mom I heard the kids confess
“Dad sure created quite a mess!”

To the parents of the groom and parents of the bride.

Mom just empties the bank account and Dad just sits and cries.

The planning of the wedding, there is so much to do.

Bridal shower and a stag, church, rehearsal dinner, just to name a few.

Reception hall, where to have? And who should we invite?

The music and photographers and a limousine seems right.

The bridal party, the gowns and tux, they all have to match.

This is just the preparation; the big day is coming fast!

The morning of the wedding, Mom is helping with her gown.

And Dad is helping with his tux, so his bow tie won’t fall down.

Everyone is at the church, the ushers do oblige.

The brides’ family to the left, the grooms to the other side.

The bridal party waits, until the music does begin.

As they play the wedding march, they slowly all walk in.

The groom and best man standing by the altar as they see.

Dad about to give away this bride, to her husband to be.

As they face each other and take their solemn vows.

They say they do and the Priest responds, you may kiss her now.

The mom and dad on both sides, sit in silent thought.

When they were born and as they grew, to this day it brought.

A tear is shed, a prayer is spoken that they are guided right.

And from the lessons that you taught, their marriage will be bright.

To love one another through good times and through the bad.

This is one thing they have learned from their moms and dads.

And when the day is over and their journey is just begun.

You wish them all the happiness, to a daughter and a son.

This is a very special night
You had a list of things to do
This is your only senior prom,
beginning of a new.
What is waiting in your future?
Would it help if you knew?

I believe, 516 Coincidence?

May 16, 1986 *(516-month 5 day 16)
Our favorite niece had died.
I have to start this write like this,
that’s when my brother cried.

Our dear young Judy was her name
not once did she complain
She had her favorite Uncle Tom
his presence eased her pain.

She had called him Uncle Darling
he always brought her smiles.
His funny antics made her laugh
for her he drove for miles.

As Tom laid in that I.C.U.
I have to mention this.
Two weeks before he past away
his smile was of pure bliss.

He spoke of Judy by his side
with words to show her love.
The last two weeks she was there
prepared him for above.

She left with her uncle darling
on Tuesday May sixteen. *(516-month 5 day 16)
Was this all a coincidence?
Was this unforeseen?

Appearing twice is five sixteen
And two more times to go.
At the Veterans cemetery
Toms’ body put below.

No stone in place a marker shown

516 was displayed *(516)

This is the number of bodies here,

right up to the day.

Judy’s dad, brother to Tommy
right on his office door.
There the numbers five sixteen main *(516)
Don’t know of anymore.
