This was his mother’s maiden name
And the middle name that was given him.

To be a college professor
Went on to Oxford University.
Where he met Ms. Helen Palmer
Husband and wife they soon would be.

Returning to the United States
Pursued a career as a cartoonist.
Worked for well known magazines
His goals he would accomplish.

In sixty-seven his first wife died
He married an old friend Audrey Stone.
Before his death in ninety-one
He wrote forty-four children’s books well known.

Translated into more than fifteen languages
With over two-million copies sold.
Television, motion pictures and a
Broadway musical to behold.

His memories of Springfield
Can be seen throughout his work.
From Forest Park to Mulberry Street
Even the Grinch with his silly smirk.

Two Academy, two Emmy awards
His inspiration was his muse.
A Peabody award and the Pulitzer Prize
Known to the world as “Dr. Seuss.”
