Rushing waters race over rocks and rusted metal

While the water turbines formerly spun

By water now sit encased in cement

Or rust, discarded despite being “green” technology.

Swans and wild geese gorge on their heads

Pondweed abundantly flourishing in the silt

Of ages…filling in like any other pond

Or lake, although man-made.

Diverse dams and mills have been rejuvenated

For apartments, storage centers and even other industries…

Some dams have been taken over by towns

To preserve property values around the mill pond.

Some dams have been refitted with water turbines

Or demonstrating water wheels, to both preserve

The past and point to a greener future…

While the pondweed grows and people are calmed by rushing waters.
