WHEN YOU THINK YOU HAVE IT CONQUERED

WHEN YOU THINK YOU HAVE IT CONQUERED…!

(Based on Proverbs and Paul’s letters)

Ego raised its ugly head

When he thought he had prayed it dead,

The flesh sour turns

When jealousy burns

Over what another man said.

Proverbs says don’t envy a sinner

Though you may well envy his dinner..

Affections are true

But don’t misconstrue

Abundance as signs of a winner.

With food and clothing be content,

So St. Paul’s letters oft went…

Love of riches snare

Us in too much care

Discouraging saintly intent.

We are not all witty or tough

But in the Lord’s strength we’re enough

To see this life through

By letting God do

The inside job on our stuff.

Get to know your own needs and desires,

Self control does help dampen fires

That lead to untoward

Actions overboard,

The Spirit is who helps a  saint aspire.
