I write my own obit ~ by rldubour

I write my own obit

I take death too heavy… I must
learn to lighten up a bit
Since it’s Sunday morning… I thought?
I would write my own obit!

I’m sure this has been done before
by more clever men than I
In describing how their life was,
just before they died.

There is one problem as I sit
and contemplate to write.
What if I live a long time now?
Then nothing will be right!

Well since I’m superstitious
Not going to put a date.
And what about all my tomorrows,
how do I calculate?

Now I have a million questions
can’t answer not a one.
Maybe I should leave this write
until my day is really done.

Someone else will have to finish
and write what they have seen.
I wonder how well they will do and
will they miss the in-between?

I started this with good intentions
but now I’ve come to see.
It does not matter what I did,
or even come to be.

The only thing that matters now
Is the day that I do leave.
How will people say my name?
How will I be perceived?
