Went to sleep between doctor visits

In the morning and afternoon,

Like my wife i ate almost nothing…

Won’t forget my dreaming then soon.

‘Twas like I was…home health aiding

With security job overtones..

Some trains with interesting lading

And driving myself toward home.

Echoes of past-present-future

And images in between

Present themselves out of order,

But who knows what any mean?

Sometimes while dreaming I forget

Experiences that I’ve been through…

Then voices start asking why I wasted

My choices, telling me what to do.

These voices suggest ecological

Things to do with my degrees

And then they lament the options I squandered

When things were left up to me.

And then I awoke, to help my beloved

Be ready for her afternoon turn

To remove the medical what-you-may-call-it

And the end of the test that she’s earned.

My love looks at me—I’m glad I am living

Not in someone’s shadow, undressed,

My life I have lived—my bucket list’s shorter—

I’m glad that my love’s seen my best.

The shadows of dreams may hold

Us captive to thoughts of the present and past…

But in waking hours I’ve done the best I can

To focus on treasure that lasts!
