WORSHIP THE UNSEEN GOD

WORSHIP THE UNSEEN GOD

by Jonathan Caswell

Consider the normal icon

With image of a saint upon…

      One says they’re reminders

      Another is inclined, er,

To pray to the image thereon.

We Protestants have our crosses,

Pet doctrines and liturgical glosses…

      And “Shepherd Jesus” stained glass,

      Illustrations that pass

For valued images—potential drosses.

And many do “worship” the Bible,

That version we find most vital…

      Some pastors (deranged?)

      Claim their Bible hasn’t changed

In a thousand years—pure libel!

Many people’s faith seem based on such statements,

Any evidence contrary is viewed as abatements

      Disturbing folks’ faith,

      ‘Though it were spiritual rape

To suggest the Bible was not  a word-for-word “relatement”.

Don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble,

Now I KNOW I am in trouble…

      Translation does err

      No matter the care,

Picking word scraps from the rubble.

The Bible is God’s word,

But word-for-word infallible—absurd—

      Those were HUMAN HANDS

      From many lands,

Who were by the Spirit stirred.

For we see only in part,

1st Corinthians 13: 9 says with art…

      Vision incomplete

      Must be the soul’s meat

Until  this old world blows apart.

Bible IDEAS have remained the same,

Still command us to reverence His Name…

      And Jesus Christ

      Is God-Man sacrificed,

In every Bible worthy of the claim.

Is your faith based on physical things

Or upon our Lord, King of Kings…

Can you endure in the faith

If Bible accuracy isn’t always safe

And assumptions that we make have fragile wings?
