THE BLOOD SUGAR BLUES*
CHORUS:
I got the Blues,
I got the Blues,
I got those Normal Blood Sugar Blues…
Not used to being down this far,
Feeling really different but there you are,
You won’t get healthy wishing on a star!
–
VERSES:
Been feeling funny since the time
I pushed levels down in record time…
Used my wife’s fast NOVOLOG,
As an extra boost—I felt like a dog!
CHORUS
When I woke up next morning
I felt younger with a certain spring….
Tested my sugar levels quick,
It’s a wonder I didn’t make myself sick!
CHORUS
Doctor says that’s not the way
For a healthy reduction in levels, eh**…
Says I should take it nice and slow,
But for short time relief it’s all I know!
CHORUS
Someday I will catch it good,
This short-term fix potentially could
Put me in the hospital…
I may hit bottom as the levels fall!
CHORUS
My wife wants me stay around,
She hopes I can stick it until we’re crowned
By Lord Jesus on that Day…
When He comes for His Church and takes us away!
CHORUS
So I’ll try to keep it down,
My blood sugar level and stay around…
My wife’s love can help me stand
‘Til we rise up together to the Promised Land!
CHORUS
Meanwhile I will try to choose
Carrot sticks rather than sugary blues…
With God’s help will break my bad habits,
Then I’ll wiggle my whiskers like a rabbit’s!
–
I GOT THE BLUES,
I got the Blues,
I have the blues,
I have the NORMAL BLOOD SUGAR BLUES…
Feeling funny but there you are,
Can’t get healthy on a wishing star—
It’s no wonder at “normal” I feel under par!

NOTES:
*Sung to Pete Seeger’s version of WINNSBORO COTTON MILL BLUES.
**”eh” is pronounced “ay”…like in Canada.
