A CITY SPRINGTIME
Springtime in the city
With smells and lights and sound,
Sometimes it’s even pretty
And nice to walk around…
Dumpster fires in the Valley
Start smouldering on cue,
The number no one tallies
But over summer, quite a few!
–
Springtime brings flowers
Of trees set in concrete,
Folks whiling away hours
Searching for something to eat…
Watching the latest version
Of an urban building’s fate,
Hoping economic magic
Depopulates the sewer grate.
–
Springtime in the city
With smell and sight and sound,
Sometimes it’s even pretty
And nice to walk around…
Spring time in the city
Where some dreams ne’er come true,
And life turns rather gritty
If the city gets to you.
