I HEAR TRAINS

I HEAR TRAINS

At home and at work I hear trains

When the wind is just right or it rains…

      Just over the hill

      Or from further still,

I hear choo-choo’s happy refrains.

I’m glad I don’t work on the rails,

I’d like to but that entails…

      Not being a clutz,

      No ifs, ands or buts,

In danger when my balance fails.

I used to work at a museum

Where I could ride and see ’em…

      The commute is too great

      Out in New York State,

And I wouldn’t earn enough per diem.
