ALCO RS-1

ALCO RS-1 RAILROAD LOCOMOTIVE

Rediscovered a picture from a time

In the eighties when I was inclined…

To drive nearly an hour

Letting interests flower,

And work on a tourist train line.

We guys in the tourist train crew

Took turns as we wanted to do…

To engineer

As volunteers,

After training as “real train” crews do.

One or two of us, with the steamer shut down,

Worked as Trainmen or folks on the grounds…

Running the gift shop

Or demonstrating a mail stop,

As a docent on history expound.

Found a picture of “our” loco in faded blue,

An ALCO RS-1 we used too…

Painted Lehigh Valley brown

This unit still runs around,

In Wellsboro, PA, on their choo-choo!

  1. love this trains are always fascinating especially the old ones

    • See…I can be fancy, too1 this is the picture i was referring to. We got to use #62—it still runs in Wellsboro—#59 behind it became a lease unit for George Hockaday.

  2. Reblogged this on By the Mighty Mumford and commented:

I NEVER RAN #62….BUT RODE BEHIND IT IN A TRAIN MANY TIMES PLAYING CONDUCTOR!
