ARROWROOT COOKIES
When we’d come out for the annual two weeks,
We didn’t have much time…
And I was told to not ask for anything,
Strictly warned to toe the line.
–
I was fooled once by an aunt insisting
Whatever did we need…
I made the error of agreeing with her,
Innocently or perhaps from greed.
–
Everyone growled underneath the breath
While she went into the house to search…
Eventually coming out with some cookies
So we could drive off with a lurch.
