A mechanical genius~by rldubour

A mechanical genius

T’was the night before Christmas

And all through the garage

Not a car was running, not even my Dodge!

The tires were all hung on the wall with care.

In hopes that St. Nicholas would fill them with air.

The spark plugs nestled all snug in the engine.

Mechanical problems are all I envisioned.

With wires pulled out of the distributor cap.

This Dodge settled down, for a long winters nap.

When all of a sudden there was such a clatter.

I ran to the garage to see what was the matter.

I opened the door as quick as a flash.

Into the car to examine the dash!

The lights were all flashing with a mysterious glow.

The first thought I had was to turn and just go!

When what to my wondering eyes should appear.

A mechanical genius with a grin ear to ear.

This little old guy was so lively and quick.

For a moment I thought, this must be St. Nick!

Into the garage with tools as he came.

He whistled and shouted and called them by name.

Now Ford, now Buick, now Chrysler and Lincoln.

On Chevy, on Dodge, Oh what was he thinking?

From the hood of the car to the side of the wall.

The tires He filled with air, not one but all!

He balanced and mounted them one by one.

With care and ease until He was done.

Then to the engine His course he did flew.

He tinkered and tinkered, he knew what to do.

Then with a twinkle as bright as can be.

He asked me what color, would I like to see?

As I was opening my mouth and was turning around.

He had the car painted before I could sound.

The inside He dressed with satin and fur.

The outside it sparkled, the engine did purr.

He trimmed it with silver and sprinkled some gold.

And when He stood back, that Dodge how it glowed!

His eyes how they twinkled, His dimples how merry.

As I looked at this car that I almost buried.

Then with a voice as kind as can be.

He sat on his box and folded his knees.

From the stem of his pipe he held in his teeth.

A smoke ring He blew a perfect wreath.

He looked at His job that He had just done.

He laughed and He laughed and said, :”This is fun.”

I laughed when I saw this in spite of myself.

If this isn’t St. Nick, he must be an elf!

With a wink of His eye and twist of His head.

He packed all His tools and put back in His sled!

I thought for a moment and one think I know.

I hated to see this little guy go!

Into His sleigh He was off like a flash.

With a wave of his hand, He didn’t look back.
