Carved in a tree~ by rldubour

Carved in a tree

When I was just a young lad, I carved my initials in a tree.

And made myself an oath, next initials, would be the girl for me.

As years went by I would walk and check the initials in this tree.

And wonder if I would ever find, the girl that was just for me.

All the girls that I have known were not quite worthy of.

For me to put their initials, with mine just right above.

As time went on I had forgotten, the initials in that tree.

Until one day it hit me, she was as lovely as can be.

Her voice was like and angel, she had such golden hair.

I knew I did not stand a chance, she was beyond compare.

As we began to date we hated to be apart.

Was then we knew that each of us, had each others heart.

On that day I bought the rings we went for a walk.

I held her hand and kissed her lips and said it’s time to talk.

I took her to that tree; it has been a long, long time.

And as I carved her initials, I asked her to be mine.

We have been together now with children and a home.

As they say we’re soul mates, never to be alone.

Every now and then we visit the initials in that tree.

And I will never regret I carved the initials D.J.D.
