I remember the sirens
they climbed up my spine
testing readiness
measuring mettle
while watching the skies
threats and fears
birthed as twins
wounded wombs
remained fertile with war
through the decade
that followed the peace
warning my generation
that victory’s noise
could not ever again
ring with lullabies
