WALLS~by

WALLS

Walls,
i hate you because you divide
man against man;

and create chasms
among the seamless waters;

this world is divided against itself;
so is this mind;
with invisible walls
which wreak havoc;

that is my death-wish;
i wish to break out of myself;
and reach out to the expanses vast
which lie in eternal wait for me;

walls,
why i hate you? i often wonder;
within you am I remain enclosed
you are my entry and exit points

my identity
my being;

i love these doors
closing which i feel safe
against tempests and lightning;

and within these doors,
this kitchen, this bed, this family woman
and these kids, —- all mine —

you have given me
a feeling of being myself

they tell me: walls, you are a prison
and they don’t want me
to keep behind closed doors;

i will die, denied the fresh air;
i will also die denied this body,
this mind, and this universe
which is mine, purely mine.
