I still recoil
despite a dozen distances
from airborne homeless
pieces of my peace
those people and places
of a sunlit morning
wrenched by molten gravity
where underneath smoke
all my ten million footprints
across zero ground
tracked collegium and friendship
on unwary paths
burned by peril
that none understood
for evil conceals its unbearable face
in that soulless space
otherwise holding a heart

I still recoil
from knowing how evil
took victory
carving in me
an intransigent hatred
still deep and unquenched
by bleak passage of time
I want death
in the name of the names that I knew
not divine retribution
but hard imprecation
my damaged desire for unprayerful
profound and profane
death of vengeance
my personal vengeance
to mete out with satisfied hands
for this is the me that they made
