Daily missive for Tuesday the 30th of July~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Tuesday the 30th of July

A gentle afternoon,
On the sofa.
After a morning swim
And home farm lunch
The heat of the day is left on the outside,
Where the sun, is so vibrant a presence.
Even the farmer reaped
At midnight.
Engine roaring, lights blazing
In the dark
A magnificent monster
A fabulous threshing
Machine.

This afternoon the sun
Is beating the energy out of
Weary travellers,
Breathless commuters
Trapped in airless compartments
Shuttling beneath the streets
Of London
Sweltering bodies
Smoked kippers
Dried out and left to hang.

Homeward journeys
Cannot come around
Soon enough,
For some,
With reason to believe
The time will come
When they will relish
Such simple pleasures,
And family treasures
As Tinkerbell and the Pirate,
A grandchild’s smile
A moment to breathe,
Peace and tranquillity
In the midst of summer madness.
