‘The Great Sacrifice’~ by Mary Cecil

‘The Great Sacrifice’

Through the prism of history
We reflect on the human cost,
Lives vanished in the fog of war
We grieve those young lives lost

We know the price in statistics
Millions of graves with flowers,
But who can say what might have been
In lives with years of timeless hours

There’s candles glowing softly
And flags fluttering too,
The sacrificed honoured
The dying for me and you

I hear a clock that’s ticking,
Poised to strike the hour,
When man’s inhumanity unleashed,
Will spring from those in power

And will again the lights go out
And will we remember them,
The generations waiting,
The consuming of unborn blessed men
