Daily missive for Monday the 4th of August.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Monday the 4th of August.

We watch them grow into the world.
Fearing their fragility,
Struggling to satisfy
Simple needs,
That in truth
Demand
So little understanding.
We spend so much energy
Protecting them from the
Easy hurt.
Using cotton wool
To wrap them in an over abundance
Of anxiety.

Sometimes, in the muddle
Of doing,
We miss the size of a personality,
That may blossom and change
With every passing day,
But in a very real sense
Is there
Right from the beginning.
In the first smile,
And meaningful look.
The crab-wise baby crawl,
First step they took,
As they learn
What it means to be.

Whilst we
Learn to let go,
Find alternate ways
To be essentially present.
Without expectation
Of doing much
Other,
Than taking into account
The joy
That comes with
Watching children grow.
Finding pleasure
In standing back,
Taking a back seat,
Letting our
Fledglings fly.
