‘Stealing Shadows’
Stealing shadows drifting as night flows over
The ever restless ocean,
Encircling my island home
As I sleep through my dreams
Waiting for the birth of day,
When dawn chorus echoes in silenced fields
An eternal rebirth of the land,
The clinging soil enduring
Where armies of feet tread over,
Where long ago crops sustained
Lives entwined in years of growing,
Remote and eclipsed by changing times
Could I capture a dream?
Can I chase the wind?
Of vanished days and vanished lives,
That ensnares my heart forever
