What Lies Yonder?
I try so hard to see what lies yonder
is there life behind those trees I wonder
do their hearts compared to mine beat louder
deafening than the sound of storm’s thunder
do they too know the meaning of hunger
does wickedness move their souls to anger
Beyond the lines of trees a statue linger
images I can’t understand either
crisp brown leaves fall the reason I wonder
tattered dreams like forest lays asunder
do they at the other side too blunder
and for the reasons why do they ponder
The sun’s energy in the sky unloads
my silent steps trudge on along the roads
dust laden my soul burden of past loads
covering the path lies and deceit toads
though I try walk under restraining shrouds
still I fail to reach God’s sacred abodes
Do those who live yonder know how to pray
in desolation do they seek the Way
do they surrender like the sun’s ray
aspire for nothing as a mound of clay
or on the weak ones like the tiger prey
Like a beast bothers not of the future
vanity begets unending torture
life games knowingly played by all culture
are they like child or are they more mature
do they obey the laws of mother nature
are their genuine souls honest or impure
I try so hard to see what lies yonder
is there life behind those trees I wonder
do their hearts compared to mine beat louder
deafening than the sound of storm’s thunder
do they too know the meaning of hunger
does wickedness move their souls to anger
