solid trappings of history
garland the statues
we sculpted with decades
experience rests
in each wrinkle of stone
we are marble or granite
who found final poise
in the drama of purpling
sundown that slants itself
into our unblinking
permanent eyes fixed
with satisfied gaze
on posterity wondering
under stilled brows
what it sooner or later
will etch for a hallmark
across gray remarkable
stockworks of veins
mapping character
such as we shaped with
the best of intentions
when life gave through
everchange postures the
fluid rehearsals for dying
