HAPPY DIWALI (A FESTIVAL OF LIGHT TO DAY IN INDIA)~by Rajendra Padhi

HAPPY DIWALI
(A FESTIVAL OF LIGHT TO DAY IN INDIA)

The earth turns into a sky of night
Lamps like stars in lustrous glow twinkle bright,
Homes are brides in splashes of light
Children lit up crackers in mighty heart
Plenty of sweets as gift after the sunset.

A rocket springs from ground to sky
Soars high in eagle’s flight to infinity,
They roar and sing on their tender lips
Hidden somewhere for this golden eve.

The banana trees on every doorsteps
Girls with flowers ready to greet
Pulsing hearts of love for every guests.

Though clouds of smoke alarm a fear
Sound breaks our peaceful slumber,
We don’t spend our money for the poor
We must learn our ignorance next year.

Goddess of wealth blinks from heaven
Glides down to earth with divine bliss,
Light is life brightening our clouded soul
O Lord! Keeps us away from the dark ways.
