Money~by Melvina Germain

All we need is money
and all will be well.
We can pay our bills,
tell the man at the helm
go straight to hell.
Don’t tell me
money will find me.
I’m not apt to believe that’s so.
The bill collector called
on the telephone.
The sheriff pounds on my door.
I’m still waiting for your promise.
but money ain’t chasing me down
and offering me more and more.
I’m working three jobs now.
and still can’t make ends meet.
Soon I’ll be joining my sisters.
homeless in the streets.
O I hate to say you lying,
I know you mean well.
Perhaps some money
will chase me downtown
with all that sadness
hanging round,. Well…
if it doesn’t find me, sistah,
I guess you too can join
the man at the helm,
and take your big ole self
all the way to hell.
ummm hummm that’s right.
