What is commitment
Is it when the water
along the banks flows free
Then gone when at a fork
the river bends its knee

What is commitment
Is it when a great wind
through mountainside blows strong
Then gone when the current
twists around and moves wrong

What is commitment
Is it when up the sky
the golden sun shines bright
Then gone when a dark cloud
covers the heaven’s light

What is commitment
Is it when the bird sings
songs so sweet and solemn
Then gone when the music
plays ominous omen

What is commitment
Is it when the vision
arouses interest
Then gone when the image
is probed and put to test

What is commitment
For whenever I give
my word as pledge or vow
I don’t know what to do
when others take a bow
