one more dance
round the floor
holding onto
the thrill

all the songs
ever sung
in my head
adding up to
the score
of my life
a grand opera
played out in its
passion and pain
against music of
triumph and scars
through the light
and the shadows
relationships
burnished
with time
leading here

one more song
played for us
holding you
in my arms

let the rest
cut us room
stand back
making a circle
of everyone
we’ve ever loved
they tap feet
snap their fingers
then sway
arm-in-arm
every face
beaming warm
with affection
returned
our own
audience moved
to applause

one more kiss
as we glide the
parquet and then
whisper goodbye
