ASHES~by Indira Sadanandan

ASHES

In the hearth
A flame breathed in and out
Hurried and caught the
Logs placed over.
High up went it
Spreading light
Glistening the dark corners around.
Live coals blazing like the morning sun
Prowling in the midst of dark clouds
The shining pieces of coal
In the fire like gold over the charcoal
ln our minds
You doubt to touch it
In fear of your fingers burnt.
But you have to
That you want your dark dreary life
Be brightened and the woes buried
In the ashes of your hopes
