THOUGHT I KNEW~by Anna Burgess

THOUGHT I KNEW

I thought I knew what true love was
I thought it was the box of chocolates, the expensive Jewellery
and the little gifts, wrapped in pretty ribbons
But I was wrong
It wasn’t that at all
It was the shoulder I needed when I wanted to cry
It was him saying I was beautiful, when I hadn’t slept for three days and my hair was a mess
And it was only when he was gone
Did my heart truly break
That’s when I knew what true love was
