‘Footsteps on the Shore’~by Mary Cecil

‘Footsteps on the Shore’

Gentle flows the ocean
Over footsteps on the shore
Where poets stood and pondered
Their words reflected in waves of light

The tides of time sweep over
Life’s unchanging dreams
And drift to sheltering shores
Where humanity lingers in longing

The passions of inspiration
The words to change the world
Of love’s loss and longings
The dreams to guide our souls

The rise of man from naked beings
To grasp the theory of evolution
To flee the earth to worlds untouched
Yet still seeking eternal peace

From war and want and cold ambitions
From hunger, thirst and fear
While dreamers dream and poet’s reflect
As mighty waves sweep over
