What a poem is after all?~by Mahesh Kulkarni

What a poem is after all?

What a poem is after all?
A sugar sweet snowball?
A painting on the wall?
Or a daffodil so small?

Why does one try to write?
To prove that he is bright!
To show through words his might?
Or because some one’s out of sight?

What does poem try to say?
I neither am so gay,
For this is not for the lay,
It keeps the shallow ones at bay.

Why does one so much toil?
And burn his lamp and oil?
Poets are not so guile.
They do not get into such broil.

To god one does pray.
Veiled in words here they stay.
Things one had to say!
Even when he has called it a day.
