Winds singing on the wire~by Mary Cecil

Winds singing on the wire

Winds singing on the wire
Flattened fields prostrate
Shingle shores surrender
To pounding waves of winter

Cold crystals that clink
And rattle on the pane
Homes that huddle down
Wrapped in shrouds that grip and cling

In the gloomy days of cold
Silent ever waiting
The hidden buds of spring
Are dreaming in their sleep

Ever closer turns the sun.
To strike the beaten land
And uncoil the gripping fingers
That strum the beating wind

Till at last in gentle breezes
Wafting winds transpire
To bring the song of summer
In the greening of the land
