AYABU MY RUNNER ~by Godfrey Kedogo

AYABU MY RUNNER

I gave you
my shoes and
you ran away
without saying goodbye

we had a vision
we were to accomplish this mission
we trained for the Marathon
but behind my back you went for the short race

you broke the contract
and broke the contact
I saw you
I saw potential
I chose you
I thought I chose the best
I trusted you to bring the medal home
you broke my trust and crushed my dreams

the field is marked
the race is on
you’re at the starting point
ready to run a wrong race

I am here Ayabu
currying my first aid kit.
just in case you break an uncle
currying my water bottle
just in case you run out of breath

on your marks
get set
I am waiting for you
at the finishing line
Ayabu my runner

Je suis Mariee
