Fallen~by Neil Perry

Fallen

Since I can no longer do it,
I remember when I could,
And feel a tinge of sadness
Looking at a piece of wood,

I remember that tree budding –
Branching up into the sky,
With its arms outstretched to heaven –
With the birds and butterfly;

Now I am a man of sorrow
When I see that broken tree –
Nearer earth, and not near heaven,
That had grown so wild and free.
