A RACE WITH HER SHADOW~by Godfrey Kedogo

A RACE WITH HER SHADOW

She is running
Not for a price
She is in a race
All alone in a race
Where she is the pace maker

She is running
From something
Actually nothing
She is running
From someone
Actually no one

She is in a race
In a race with herself
With her innocence
And her guilt
With her sence
And her filth
With her imperfection
And the perfection she built

She is running
From the world she created
Created out of inception and deception
She can’t lye beneath her lies
She can’t stand her own stunts
She is a fugitive of her own initiative

She is hiding
Hiding from her shadow
Afraid it might tell her little dirty secret
Of the beautiful smile
And the lies beneath
Of the courageous image
And the coward underneath

She is in a race
Her own race
A race with her shadow

Je suis Mariee
