NEW TURNS~by Saroj Padhi

NEW TURNS

Dry leaves from the body of late Spring
Burn like lovelorn seekers in their mind’s fiery ring ,
When roses in your garden turn into white flames
In tune with koels inside chests that continue to sing–

Of the cruelty of fire that turns the burning wick of love
In the lamp of life into ashes of an emptied fling ;

As fishes jump off from the depth of memories’ ancient pond
To catch your image with their excited fin
Digging furrows in body of heated water to renew an old bond ;

Lovers gulp down more nicotine deep down their guts
To silence the aching nerves that turn into thorns ,
And flowers lose petals
That are blown out into smokes of old burns ;

Priests of my land locate the Neem trees
For my Lord’s Reincarnation
As the century is set now
To take to love’s meaningful turns .
