Under the Weather~Paul F. Lenzi

Under the Weather

pharmaceuticals settle the brain
but the heart remains heavy
dense and despondent of
nothing so much as a
difficult day no deep crisis
no tragedy merely exhaustion
a coping fatigue from
the grate of the little things
wearing defenses down
rubbing the will to a rawness
an aching reluctance to
keep up the fight wanting only
to disengage body and mind
from predictable vagaries looming
in hours to come as they’ve come
every day-in and day-out before
it can weary a soul blunt the
spirit and leave one for choosing
to pull up the covers and shut out
the punishing glare of the sun
perhaps better a mood will
resurface by this time tomorrow
