Daily missive for Thursday the 30th April.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Thursday the 30th April.

The day breaks
Slowly.
After a night when
Rest was more a trial
Than a comfort.
Dreams barely formed,
Were too fleeting,
With meanings
Hard to grasp
And easier to lose.
In the stillness
That falls around you
The ceiling, presses down
So tightly
It squeezes the air
Into empty pockets,
And in half light
Shadows make
Uncertain bedfellows.
Discarded clothes
Dance with the devil,
Bed sheets, damp with sweat
And suffocation
Become so constrictive
They are pushed away.
And you lie,
Close to the edge,
Exposed to the night,
Very still,
To create an illusion
Of restfulness.

As if it mattered.
And who knows
Maybe it does
As eventually
You feel the first
Blush of sun
And in its touch
The dead of night
Makes way for the
Living.
A new day,
The kiss of the wind,
And stale air
Dissipates into the
The sound of morning
Birds singing,
And children calling,
Finding life in the wonder
Of discovery.
As each day for them
Is more than
Just a symphony
Unfinished,
It is a new world.
And with this simple dawning
You begin,
To move
Further away,
From the hollow,
That holds the void
Of night time.
