Capri~by Paul F. Lenzi

Capri

sweet isle of secret seas
where sirens of odyssey
lifted songs on the breeze
long before came Tiberius
taking his rest of imperium

ever since have millennia
drank of its lovely allure
settled into twin hamlets
gently clasping its slopes
with esthetics of leisure

here is heaven’s own blue
known to comfort and calm
the most turbulent souls
here are people who share
a vibrant affection for life

afternoons in the swoon of
lush gardens amid terraced
villas exquisite with views
here is haven a triumph
of paradise over perdition

evenings of wine and guitars
by the grace of soft light
from a generous moon
dulcet colloquies fragrant
with scent of romance

one could live out their days
here and not for a moment
regret isolation from clocks
or from crowds in their pace
through a hardbitten world
