Daily missive for Thursday the 2nd of July.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Thursday the 2nd of July.

And the sky weeps
Even as it burns
The hot flush
Seeping between the cracks
In the curve
Of the rainbow.
Are these tears of joy
Do they fall for us
As we shelter
Safe and sound.
Bound together,
Shadows in the grey
Weathering the worst
Of the storm.
Sweltering from a
Welter of warm tears
As they form runnels
In the barren earth
Scarring the burned
And ragged turf
Changing the outlook
Cooling expectations.
The precipitation
A heavy fall from
The grace of yesterday.
When the spatter
Of wet mud
Soiling summer skirts
And in aftermath
Coating bare skin
With dirty moats, of sky dust
Was but a pipe dream
For some,
Who experience
The torrid heat
As a wicked drain
Akin to walking
In the infernal circles
Of Dante’s hell,
Nine times over
And when the sky breaks
They rejoice.
Alas for them
Theirs is but a lonely voice,
When July’s loss is mourned
By most
Who raise a Pimm’s
To a clear blue sky
And toast
The glory days of summer.
