the river keeps me safe
among cool kindred pebbles
our colors and curvatures
glisten with freshwater grace

eons removed from my mother
the mountain I transit
declensions as gravity tugs
time and tide from my youth

sweet maturity gathers in
gradual cisterns and shallows
the overhead passing of suns
after moons teaching patience

mine is a natural experience
placid except for occasions
when mad charging churns lift
and carry me out of my peace

till the river resettles me
bathed in its aegis of currents
that take away microns of me
ever altered for better or worse
