THE NIGHT HAD DESERTED ME~by Hela Tekali

THE NIGHT HAD DESERTED ME

The night passed away,
The Sun rose from the ocean
My feelings have become calmer,
As I walked on the Beach
And laid down on the grass
Like a restless spectre
Was overpowered by a deep sleep
I felt that the night had deserted me
And a mountain of despair sank into
The depth of my being
My nerves were agitated,
And my eyes were inflamed with terror
I thought for an instant that the Moon would rise
And take away this gloomy despair from my raging eyes
But then again the sky became clouded;
And as clouds hid the Moon, everything before my eyes was obscure
I looked up on the heavens, which were covered by clouds that f lew before the wind, only to be replaced by others.
I looked up on the sea, it was to be my grave
And I ceaselessly looked up on the murmur of its waves to lull me
And its immeasurable water to soothe me
As the night had deserted me
