I Wonder~by Lilian Dipasupil Kunimasa

I Wonder

If only I can paint the joy of life into a portrait
I wonder if the brush I held can wait
To capture a toddler’s cheerful gait

If only I can gather the stars
and string them as crown
I wonder if I can find an appropriate gown
For my beloved to wear when the Queen comes to town

If only I can capture the scents of a flower in a bottle
I wonder if that can make soldiers leave the battle
And live a peaceful life amidst the daily struggle

If only I can dabble with words to make them sing
I wonder if they can make the Liberty bell ring
No slaves, no thralls for ships to bring

If only I can ask the angels for my friends to pray
I wonder if for my enemies they’ll lovingly stay
Gather us all together to calm the hatred fray

Still these will not be enough to show
How grateful I am for love that in every heart flow
As we all accept the wind’s unity blow

Yet I cannot stop and keep my wonder
Of the hidden mysteries I ponder
What lies beyond things my eyes see yonder
