Starting Point~rictameter style~by rldubour

Rictameter is a scheme similar to Cinquain. Starting your first line with a two syllable word, you then consecutively increase the number of syllables per line by two. i.e. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 Then down again, 8, 6, 4, 2 Making the final line the same two syllable word you began with.

Starting Point

Today
Too much decay
I watch and feel dismay
With our children alone each day
I wonder what tomorrow brings their way
If they ask me what will I say?
The truth? Out-look is gray.
The price we pay
Today

Today
Minds gone astray
To the dark side they sway
Evil invites them out to play
Left alone they go their separate way.
Disrespect in the words they say
Parents now look away
Admission day
Today!

  1. Interesting! Im going to try crafting one of these.

  2. I was seeing that style of poetry more because i wanted to “expand my horizons” Now that i know the syllable sequence, i MIGHT try my hand at it. The remaining poetry i will write will still be free verse
