The Homeless One~by Karen King

The Homeless One

The homeless one was a drinker,
he lost his job, his wife, his home.
Things were good once, he had a great career
and all was going well.
He had been a Solicitor.
He played golf with his clients and had drinks after work.
First once a week on a Friday, then twice a week …
Soon he was out every night, drinking and entertaining his clients.
His wife told him to stop.
His children wouldn’t speak to him.

He continued.
He couldn’t help himself!

He needed a drink in the morning to quell his headache,
one lunchtime to be sociable and one at night …
His office warned him, clients were complaining …

He continued.
He couldn’t help himself!

He lost his job, but did not tell his wife.
He would spend all day in the park.
The mortgage could not be paid.
The bills could not be paid.
His wife threw him out.

He continued.
He couldn’t help himself!
