Daily missive for Monday the 28th of March.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Monday the 28th of March.

Hidden
Beneath dried leaves
Piled into a corner
By the wild wind
Tossed like an old salad
A new home to insects
Feeding on rotten tomatoes
Still on the vine.
A bitter vinaigrette
Of last night’s beer
And urine
A man
Old before his time,
Waits
For the coming
Of an anger
He thought was long gone.
But there is so much
Of it about
It will
Seek him out soon
Enough,
Whether he wants it too
Or not.
The wind stirs
A limp flag of
Fluttering memories
So discomforting
A feeling
A wounded seam
Still to be mined
Rich
With a crock
Of golden thoughts
From before the collapse
Of the old world,
When they stood
Together arm in arm
Before the fall
Into sour mash
Brought him low.
And in a swell
Of repentant anger
He is roused.
As the old leaves
Turn
With the change
Into a new day
And for a moment
He believes
The time has come
To find his way.
