Daily missive breaks into the weekend Sunday the 17th of April.~ St Peter.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive breaks into the weekend Sunday the 17th of April.
St Peter.

Will you deny me?
When the rabbit
Chases the squirrel
High up into the tree
As far as the crow’s nest
The robin
Bobs his head
In accompaniment
To the subtle music
Of the lullaby
I have playing
In my head.
When rules of engagement
And estrangement
Change
With the regularity
Of a foxes cry
On the loose
In a chicken shed
And geriatric cocks crow
In apologetic
Serenade
Will you finally
Leave me to the wolves?
They circle
This sorry effigy
Waiting for the
Wind to fall
It carries their smell,
An aroma
That has never been
Heaven scent.
Purity
Keeps them at bay
Even in waning
And helpless,
Their cowardice
Hounds them
It is my trust
They need
To salve their
Own dark conscience
But I gave it to you.
Now is the time
To repay it
Stay with me
Soothe the wounds
Of the darkest of days
You are my rock,
Solid and true,
Please tell me
You will never waver.
Not ever
Not you.
