BACK INTO THE DARK~by Tukur Loba Ridwan

BACK INTO THE DARK

***
when I turn around
with my back against the fore
where the bright eyes of the future
should stare me in the face,
in the face of my destiny,
all I see is your back turned on me too,
shrouded by a black beautiful robe.
.
once upon a time,
when we were not in this future,
not even in the stream of our thoughts,
as it flows back and forth.
.
your back could not but face the past
while your front view; head to heels,
was all for my eyes to see
like I was the future you deemed,
because the dark scales
of the times you had shed behind,
when you could no longer
withstand the itches
that changes have caused you –
.
it was all too much for you,
until you met me…
.
that i gleamed, in glee, the glitz
and glamour of glitters into your life
like the benevolence of the heavens
on the neediness of earth.
.
now, when I turn around
with my back against the fore
where the future should stare me
in the face, with a warm embrace,
in the face of my destiny
all I see is your back
turned around on me too,
shrouded by this black robe.
.
as though you’re heading back
into the dark abyss of your past
where I may not find you anymore
for the rest of my life
’cause your black robe
would have been mixed
with the sketches of the dark.
.
you are such a mystery:
you stooped out of the chasm
of time and its secrecy
without whose whims and consent.
.
you are an ephemeral bliss:
you sneaked back
into your lonely cave
after giving me the less of you
than I’ve always craved.
.
you are a tragedy:
you are the sad epilogue
that ended the main role you played
and made my acts and scenes
a pleasant plot to read
in the phase of summary.
.
you are the reason
why nothing lasts forever
in a world meant for me and you
but not for too long
’cause nothing lasts forever –
not even you, not even me,
.
but this one that I have written
on the stone that my heart has become
shall last forever.
