BELIEVE ME~by Shirley Macclean

You must believe in me
in yourself
in the ones who love you
those whom you love

believe me this life is not for its asking,
it is just an outcome of two
in the open wilderness basking
vanilla drinking and coconut water sifting

Then you live a life alone
Later your elders have gone
you moan
then with your spouse you are alone
you sojourn,
most of your life
as hubby and wife
then one goes
who does first no one knows

Finally you follow too
there is no heavenly rendezvous

you are two forgotten memories
some carry on indefinitely,
some linger in to space and time
but last till only the midnight bells chime
well life it’s all silent and sublime
O what a life of mankind.
