Daily missive for Thursday the 7th of July.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Thursday the 7th of July.

Left to dry,
Leather backs
Stretched out in the sun,
No hurry
So why worry?
Nowhere to be,
Nothing to do
But sit and wait
For the time to pass,
The rate
Of exchange to increase
To cash in
A bond or two,
Maybe have a barbeque
In the afternoon,
Volunteer at a hospice.
They do good work
For the body
As well as the soul
And it all helps
Stave off old age,
Re-engage the gears
When the engine dies
From lack of fuel.
There are no rules
And fewer ties
To the outside
But the view
From a sun deck
Is restricted,
An active mind conflicted
When decisions
Involve sunscreen
And what might have been
Is served as a cocktail
At beach parties
You try to avoid.
Too easily annoyed
By the chatter that in truth
Is now, no more than
A laughing matter,
When measured against
Transient days
Stuck in these
Same old ways.
In a stagnating
Retirement farm.
Locked away,
Safe from harm.
In an identikit
Purpose built compound,
Lost to a world
You never found.
